Drumming Classes with Monette Marino!

This weekend is not to be missed! Having apprenticed with Mamady Keita for over 15 years, Monette Marino has accumulated an incredible wealth of knowledge and skills and has developed a joyful style of teaching that is sure to keep you not only challenged but laughing and smiling throughout the class!
Monette will be teaching all-levels Cuban rhythms for congas and hand percussion on Friday night covering folkloric patterns for 2 congas, clave, pallitos, and shekere.
On Saturday, it’s all about the Mandingue and the djembe orchestra! Learn traditional rhythms from Guinea, West Africa on both djembe and dunun, including solo techniques and songs!
Party & pot luck at Karen and Arlen’s house after class on Saturday. Details sent out with registration.

Saturday, June 11th
Students will learn the dun, djembe and solo parts for a West African rhythm that can be used for a performance piece. All levels classes, although it is recommended that students have some experience with West African drumming.
Lunch at The Palace for $10. Please preregister for lunch (choose meat or vegetarian). Authentic African cuisine.
3:00-4:30pm Putting it all together! Solo techniques and arrangement

Monette Marino is a world percussionist. She spent the majority of the last 20 years studying under Master Drummer Mamady Keïta from Guinea. In 1999 she received her Teaching Certificate from Mr. Keïta and opened a branch of Tam Tam Mandingue USA in San Diego, California. From 2004-2012 she managed Mamady’s world tours, assisted him in teaching master classes, and performed with his ensemble, Sewa Kan. She received her diploma from Mamady Keïta & Tam Tam Mandingue in 2011.
She has since branched out as a solo artist releasing her debut album “Coup d’Eclat” and also opened her own school of percussion called “MO’RHYTHM”. In addition, Monette Marino has created an iPhone App Mo’Rhythm Africa – Play Along Djembe/Dunun App now available on iTunes for iPhone/iPad/Apple TV. Prior to her involvement in West African percussion Monette studied folkloric and popular rhythms from Cuba, Brazil, and Korea.
